Matilda (Tillie) was born in Ludington, Michigan (there is discrepancy for the year of birth - either 1875 or 6. Before 1900 she and her family moved to Howard, Miner County, South Dakota. She and her sister Ellen attended Madison Normal School (teacher's college) in Madison, SD and both became teachers. Tillie and Ellen both taught in Madison, Tillie married (Brady) and was later widowed. After her mother died in 1903 Tillie moved to Sioux Falls, SD to live with her father and his second wife where she did housekeeping for them. in 1920 she took a job as Matron at the House of Corrections in Detroit, Mich ( not sure of this fact)
In 1920 Tillie lived with her father in Long Beach, California, where he had moved to for retirement. She died in Los Angeles County, CA on April 12, 1921
