A. Bernice (Cheek) Bare, 68,of Glen Rock, died Friday, September 26, 2008, at Manor Care South, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of the late Billy R. Bare.

Mrs. Bare was born March 14, 1940, in Deep Gap, N.C., a daughter of Ella Mae (Watson) Cheek of Glen Rock and the late Wallace F. Cheek. She graduated from Susquehannock High School in 1958 and from the Empire Beauty School in Hanover in 1959. She was a self employed beautician, operating the Bernice Bare Beauty Shop from 1965 until this past April. Mrs. Bare was a member of the Glen Rock Church of Christ and of the Jefferson AARP Chapter #3699. She enjoyed scrapbooking, card stamping and other crafts. She was also a phenomenal cook and enjoyed hosting many family gatherings, especially at the holidays.

She leaves a son, Tim I. Bare of Glen Rock; two grandsons, Andrew J. Bare and Joseph T. Bare, both of Glen Rock; a sister, R. Inice Miller of Glen Rock; and two brothers, Clyde A. Cheek of Glen Rock and Larry F. Cheek of Lenoir, N.C. She was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Ann Shaffer.

Burial will be in St. Jacob's (Stone) Church Cemetery.
