John contracted cholera when he went to St. Louis to sell cattle. His wife, Rebecca nursed him, bathed him and made him eat asafetida, but no amount of nursing could save John. She also did not protect herself, and died of cholera as well. Son of Arabia and Catherine Brown, husband to Rebecca Plummer, father to Joseph, Martin, Nancy, Caroline, Mary Louise, George Madison and Jeremiah.
