Trooper First Class Lippy was killed in the line of duty when a Maryland State Police medical evacuation helicopter crashed. Lippy who was the flight medic on board, along with 3 others were killed when the helicopter went down during severe weather.

He was a member of the Owings Mills Volunteer Fire Company in Baltimore County and a part-time paramedic at Gamber and Community Volunteer Fire Company in Carroll County.
