Son of Robert Gill and Mary "Polly" Young. Husband of Mariah Bennett Hayes. Father of eight: Elizabeth B., Lucy, Mary Ann, Charles Alexander, Isaac W., William R., George B. and Isham Ephram H. He moved to Huntsville, AL in 1828 where he became a merchant, trader and inventor, having invented and patented the first cast iron mold-board plow. He moved to Dallas in 1881.
