Remembering A Beautiful Soul Who Brought Joy to so many, Who lived life to the fullest, Who will be sadly missed.
Ava passed away on Feb. 4, 2011 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She lived in Midwest City at the Autumn House Senior apartment complex. She was sweet and kind, bringing happiness and laughter to those around her.
She was born on April 20, 1922, in Oklahoma City, to the late William Robert Priest and Vesta Erma (Nichols) Priest, the oldest of seven children.
She was an active member of the Crown Heights Church of the Nazarene serving as the Women's Missionary President for ten years. Ava began as a volunteer at the American Lung Association Oklahoma office, and later accepted a position as the Literature, Health and Education Secretary. She retired after ten years of service.
Ava served as President of the Oklahoma County P.T.A., homeroom mother, as well as serving on various committee chairmanships, and was a leader on different levels of the Camp Fire Girls organization. She lived her entire life in Oklahoma, but, as a member of several senior organizations, she traveled all over the United States and Canada.
She loved her coffee and ice tea, roses and orchids, the color purple, and find-the-word puzzles. She was an avid reader until her sight was dimmed by macular degeneration.
She will be interred with her late husband, Franklin Lee Piercey (they were married 42 years) and their daughter, Mary Louise Burnside, at Arlington Memorial Gardens. Another daughter, Sharon Ilene Piercey, who died in infancy, is buried at Fairlawn. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Jeanne Reading, and brother, Ralph Priest.
She is survived by her children: Ava LaVerne McDannell and husband Aaron of Herndon, Virginia, and Reverend Franklin Lee Piercey and wife Diana of Scranton, Arkansas. She is also survived by son-in-law Everett Kent Burnside of Midwest City, OK; two sisters, Joyce Roberts and Marilyn Hogue; one brother, Clyde Priest; grandchildren Sean Burnside, Franklin Piercey III, Timothy Piercey, Sharon Piercey, and Todd McDannell and wife Jennifer; one great-grandson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, as well as loving friends and associates.
A Memorial Service was held at Crown Heights Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, officiated by Ava's pastor, Clifford Thirion. Her son, Rev. Franklin Piercey, co-officiated.
