BRISTOL -- James P. Besemer died at Speare Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Long Island, N.Y., to Clarence and Dorothy (Siebert) Besemer and was raised on Long Island.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he moved to New Lebanon, N.Y.

In 1983 he moved to Methuen, Mass., and in 2006 moved to Bristol.

He worked for Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. for a number of years and prior to retirement, worked for Gilford Railroad.

He was known as "The Trainman" for his well-known love of the railroad as well as model trains.

He was also known in New Hampshire as a fixture at the Meredith and Hobo Railroads, where he enjoyed working on the railroad and made many many friends.

He was a member of the NH Association of Train Hobbiest.

He was predeceased by a daughter Shaun Besemer.

Family members, in addition to his mother, Dorothy Fagan of Allentown, Pa., include his wife, Sally (Rinn) Besemer of Bristol; two sons, James P. Besemer II of New Lebanon, N.Y., and John Callahan of Salem; two daughters, Sandy O'Sullivan of Hudson, and Patty Pierce of Londonderry; four grandchildren; one brother, Joel Besemer of New Lebanon, N.Y.; one sister, Judith Arangio of Fogelsville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
