The Holton Recorder, June 24, 1920:
Pleasant Grove. We were all sorry to hear of the death of W. C. Baker, which occurred last Monday night. He and his daughter Gladys were visiting his daughter, Mrs. Lillian Larue and family, in Parsons, Kan., at the time of his death. A stroke of paralysis was the cause of his death. He had made his home in this neighborhood for eight years and had just moved to Holton this spring to spend the remaining years of his life. Miss Gladys will spend the next two months with her sister, Mrs. Paul Whitcraft ….

William Curtis Baker was born in New York City, Jan. 8, 1856, and departed this life June 15, 1920, at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 7 days. Mr. Baker’s parents died when he was a small boy, and he spent his childhood days in the home of an uncle, Alonzo Douglass, of New York. His marriage to Mary Ella Brown took place at Hampton, New Jersey, Jan. 12, 1878. The same year the young couple came to Kansas and settled on a homestead in the western part of the state, where they lived many years. Nine years ago Mr. and Mrs. Baker brought a farm near Holton, where Mrs. Baker died in the spring of 1919. A few months ago Mr. Baker purchased a home in Holton, where he planned to spend his old age. Death came at Vinita, Okla., where he was stricken while on a journey. Three daughters and two sons survive …. Burial was made in the Holton cemetery.
