Mr. Johnny B. Spires of 313 Richmond Drive, Fayetteville, NC and formerly of Wilmington entered into eternal rest on September 24, 2008 at UNC-CH Hospital with his wife at his bedside. Funeral services will be Monday, September 29, 2008 at 1 PM from Davis Funeral Home Jordan Memorial Chapel with Pastor Clarence E. Shavers officiating and Pastor Maxzine Utiey, eulogist. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery with full military Honors.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Dixon Spires; his daughter, Demetria Green (Anthony, Sr.); his son, ShaWayne Bumette; sister, Attorney Pamela Edwards of New York, NY; three grandchildren, Anthony, Jr., Destiny and Savion; Aunt Carrie Parker of Philadelphia, Pa., Uncle and Aunt Prince and KLathy Moses of San Diego, CA; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Clarence) Shavers, Joan Dixon, Gail (John) Nixon of Mobile, AL, Brenda Jenkins and Maxzine (James) Utiey; brother-in-law, Andrew (Ethel) Taylor; a village of nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews; a special niece - God-daughter, Tanya Dixon Mason; special cousins. Sally Ann Cobia and children, Bobby, Donald Ray (Celia Ann), Linda (Champ), Bootsie and husband and their families; Grand Aunt Julia Smith (the late Uncle Jo Smith), Grand Uncle Mutt Smith; special friend and Vietnam buddy, Harold George and his mother, Ms. Louise and a loyal canine-friend, Kady-Kady.

The visitation will be Sunday, September 28, 2008 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at 705 Red Cross Street.
