Benjamin Rockafellow entered service as a Second Lieut. in Co. M,6th Michigan Cavalry in Sept. 1862.Commissioned First Lieut. on March 16,1863.Wounded in action at Wilderness,Va. May 6,1864.Mustered Capt.,Co. I,Oct 1,1864.Mustered out of the First Cavalry at Salt Lake City,Utah Territory on March 10,1866.After the war he served as postmaster of Canon City and then in the Colorado legislature.His great grandfather's brother was the great grandfather of John D.Rockefeller,founder of Standard Oil and America's first billionare.
