BERNARD ALVEY, HOMEBUILDER, DEVELOPER, DIES -- Bernard Alvey, 64, an Owensboro home builder and developer, died at 11:25 p.m. Saturday [July 10, 1971] at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital following a long illness. He lived at 2149 N. Stratford Drive. Born in Daviess County on February 5, 1907, he was a long-time resident. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Retail Lumber Dealers Association. He was part-owner of Alvey Brothers Lumber Co. here and developed subdivisions in Madisonville, KY and Union City, TN, as well as in Owensboro. Surviving are his widow. Mrs. Eugenia Busam Alvey; two sons, Bernard E. Alvey of Owensboro and Dr. John A. Alvey of St. Louis; a brother, Robert I. Alvey; and sister, Mrs. J. Albert Clark, both of Owensboro; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Tuesday at St. Stephens Cathedral by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Raymond G. Hill, pastor and the Rev. Ben Luther. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Prayers will be said at 7 a.m. and Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.
