Francis E. Bavin, 78, of Oscoda, MI, and formerly of Saginaw, died September 1, 2002, at his home following a brief illness.

He was born January 1, 1924 to the late Arthur and Mary (Randall) Bavin. He worked as a tool and die maker in the Detroit and Saginaw areas.

He served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during WW II.

He married Eileen Oja on August 3, 1946.

He was an avid sportsman.

He was survived by his wife, Eileen; three children, MIchael (Linda) Bavin of Memphis, Mich., John (Penny) Bavin of Jackson, and Janet (Michael) Tyra of Merrill; five grandchildren, Amy, Elizabeth, Kate, Renee and Rebecca; three step-grandchildren, Melissa, Christine and Timothy; and a sister, Shirley Walsh of Hanover, Mass.

He was preceded in death by a sister, May Bavin; and a brother, William Bavin.
