The aircraft was discovered in 1970 and had crashed into Mount Scratchley in the vicinity of Mount Victoria.
Clyde was a passenger on this aircraft and was first declared "Missing In Action" and his status, after finding the aircraft, was later changed to "Killed In Action".
He was awarded the Purple Heart.
