Jasper Smith, 87, died Monday morning at Mercy Hospital. A native of Curtisville, he was born August 5, 1894, the son of Ira and Mary Bright Smith. He was married to Sylvia (Jones) Smith who died in 1946.

A World War I veteran, he had worked at the Tin Plate here. He was a member of the DAV Chapter 12 in Anderson, VFW Post 5782, American Legion Post 53, and World War I Barracks #1648 in Elwood.

Jap served his county from June 22, 1916 to May 10, 1919, rank of private in France. He was assigned to the Field Artillery.
