1829 - 1909
MARGARET GARRETT SIMMONS TURNER COOK
Margaret Ida Garrett was born in September 1829 in Tennessee.
It is believed that in 1850,
she married Dr. Adam Q Simmons (1786-1862).
She was Simmons' 3rd wife.
According to the chart, they had 4 children:
Harriet Anna Virginia Simmons in 1851,
A Q Simmons Jr in 1853,
Franklin P Simmons in 1854,
and Sara Ann Simmons in 1858.
After Dr Simmons' death, she married Dr. J B Turner (1806-1871)
with whom she had 2 more children:
Attie Turner in 1864 and
Annie Turner in 1866.
Sometime before the 1880 census, she married J M Cook.
At that time they lived in Weatherford in Parker County, Texas.
The 1900 census shows a widowed Margaret Cook living in Parker County, Texas with her oldest son, A Q Simmons, Jr.
The 1910 census shows Margaret's daughter, Annie, living with her husband, Lucius A White (1852-1919) in LaPorte, in Harris County, Texas. It would make sense that Margaret is buried in LaPorte, if she had been living with Annie in 1909, the year she died.
Although I am not certain that this is Margaret Garrett's headstone, the evidence is very strong that it is.
Respectfully submitted,
Carolyn White Davis
