Ralph Bissell
Madrid, Aug. 21 — On Saturday morning, Aug. 12th, at 6 o'clock there passed away at his home Ralph Bissell in the eighty-second year of his age, after an illness of but eight hours duration. Born on the same farm where he died and making his home always there, his life was spent uneventfully. He was born Oct. 12, 1823, and was the youngest of five children. Here he grew up and on Aug. 16, 1855, married Mary C. Packard. To them four children were born, all of whom are living, namely, Mary Elizabeth, Amos (sic- Annis) H., Frank and Carrie A. Besides his wife an aged sister also survives. The funeral was held from the home Tuesday afternoon, all the children being present. Rev. C. W. Hardendorf, now of East Roekaway, but his former pastor here and a close friend of the family in the absence of the present pastor, came to, officiate. The interment was made in the Cemetery at Madrid. Mr. Bissell will be greatly missed in his home. He was an indulgent parent, pleasant neighbor and trusty friend. He was well informed, being a great reader. He was a member of the Congregational society and will be missed in that society. He leaves a memory of loving service, of faithful industry and of blameless life.
