After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy. At the time of his death he was assigned to the USS Pittsburgh Nuclear Submarine, Groton, CT. He enjoyed the Navy. During the memorial held at Groton many servicemen recounted the unforgetable impact Alden had made in their lives.
