When he was three years old his father Gustave Gus" Lybecker was killed in a snow slide accident in Salt Lake City, Utah. His mother, Janet (Brand) Lybecker moved her children to California and from there to Harrington, WA. He attended school in Lower Lord's Valley District. In 1902 he homesteaded land in the Lamona area.

Eric married Gerda V. Hoakanson 25 December 1907 Lincoln County, WA. In 1926 they moved to a farm near Harrington and their last home was 4 miles NW of town.

He belonged to the Community Church and the Liberty Grange. His death was from heart related problems.

They had four sons:

Earl Lybecker
James "Jimmy" R. Lybecker
