A Sad Accident
One of those sad accidents which are so frequent in and about a mining district, occurred at Stone City a few days ago. The victim this time was a good man, a hard worker, who only last fall put out one hundred acres of wheat and went into the mines to work for the winter, expecting to reap in the summer.
John Henry Mitchell, aged about thirty-six years, who lived a mile north of Mineral, was fatally injured by falling rocks. He lived only a short time and died on February 12th. He leaves a sorrowing wife and a little boy four years old.
He was a native of Maryland, coming to Kansas in 1880. He belonged to the order of Red Men, to the Anti-Horse Thief Lodge, and to the Modern Woodmen of America.
On account of the storm the funeral services were deferred till Monday, when services were conducted at the Christian church by Geo. W. Brown, and the remains were laid to rest in the Cherokee cemetery.
Mr. Mitchell was well spoken of by all who knew him.
