Abel helped with the surveying of Chittenden Vermont. He was in the King's American Dragoons - Fulton's Troop Camp Fresh Meadows 4th August 1782 Abel Waters - Cornet. He applied for Loyalist land but was too late to qualify.
He was married to Sarah Tomlinson, daughter of Henry and Patience Tomlinson. Abel and Sarah had 7 children. Betty Ann m. Enos Day, Truman m. Philotheta Wells, (Truman's daughter Clarissa m. the above Asa Warrens' son Asa Kellogg Warren), Daniel m. Elizabeth Hall, Lucy m. Botsford, Charles m. Maria Frost, Eunice m.
