He married Madeline McClure 1 Jul 1869 in McDonough county, Ill. To this union seven children were born.
The family moved to Kansas around 1878. He farmed here for 55 years.

J.W. Venard Dead
James William Venard, 90, a retired farmer and long resident of this vicinity, died at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday morning at his home in the west part of the city. He had been ill for some time.
Mr. Venard was born in McDonald (sic) county, Illinois, April 20, 1848. He was married in 1869 in Illinois, coming to Kansas at the age of 30. He settled near Cherokee and farmed for 55 years in this vicinity. Upon his retirement five years ago he moved into town. He held a membership in the Christian church.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Madline Venard; three daughters, Mrs. May Joff and Miss Lizzie Venard of this city, and Mrs. Zena Altop of Pittsburg; 13 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild and a sister, Mrs. Josephine Smith of Hollywood, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church by Rev. G.W. Corporan of Arcadia assisted by Rev. Roy Templin and burial will be in the Cherokee cemetery.
