Wilhelmina was born on September 25, 1849 in Zell, Neckarkreis, Wurttemberg, Germany. This is now called Esslingen am Neckar in Baden-Wurttemburg. Wilhelmina was christened two days later, on the 27th. She was the daughter of Johann Michael Schickler and his wife, Wilhelmine Katharine Sohn. Wilhelmina was also called Minnie and Mina.

According to the 1900 Federal Census, Wilhelmina, immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1870. The Passenger and Immigration Lists Index for 1500's-1900's lists her arriving in Philadelphia in 1869. Years ago I saved a passenger list with her name on it, but I didn't put the date of arrival or the ship's name. (Dumb!) And now I can't find it again! What I do have says that she was 22 years old, going from Germany to the United States. Her cabin is listed as "deck", meaning she didn't have a cabin, but just sat and slept on the deck of the ship.

On July 27, 1873, Minnie married Gottlob Friederich Obenland. they were married in St. James Evangelical Lutheran church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The couple had 7 children: Emma (1875), Wilhelmina (1877), Louisa (1878), William (1880), Charles (1883), Friederike (1888), and Margaret (1890).

Gottlob, Minnie's husband, was a baker in Philadelphia while she kept house for their family.

Sons William and Charles went on to own their own plumbing company and Friederich became a bookkeeper. William married Feronica (Fannie) McKnight, Charles married Cora Rustine and Friederich maried Anna E. Allen in 1913. (Philadelphia Certificate #294647). William and Friederich had children.

Their daughter Wilhelmina married Charles Zeiser in 1904. (Philadelphia Certificate #174393). Daughter Margaret married Alfred D. Rapp in 1913. (Philadelphia Certificate #299389.)

Minnie passed away on April 11, 1923 due to lobar pneumonia. She was buried in Oakland Cemetery on August 16, 1923.
