Born to James T. and Lucina (Watkins) Caldwell, the third of eight children and preferred going by Oscar David, or O. D. He was a corporal in the 11th Mich. Cavalry Co. A, and was married three times. His first was Francelia "Frankie" Owens, who died of consumption in 1884. Second wife Delia S. Johnson died in 1917. His last was Florence "Hattie" Bridges, who outlived him. He died from broncho pneumonia and chronic dysentery, acquired from his Civil War tenure. His last address was 206 S. Erie Ave., Wichita KS. His two children preceded him in death, Claude Caldwell and Maud (Sanders A.) Sharp, both in Detroit in 1898. Surviving are grandson Oscar James Sharp of Wood County, OH. Also great grandchildren David, William, Glenn and Marjorie Sharp, all of Wood County, OH. Two brothers survive, William J. Caldwell of Spring Lake, MI and Edward Byron Caldwell of Beverly Hills, CA.
