The funeral for John Houston "Jack" Allen, 79, of Elkmont will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Tim Anderson officiating.
Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.
Mr. Allen died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at home.
Survivors include his wife, Betty W. Allen of Elkmont; daughters, Kathy Allen Waggoner and husband Dean and Jan Allen King and husband Jerry D., all of Athens, and Leigh Allen Keller and husband Todd C. of Elkmont; sons, Jack Witty Allen and wife Becky of Decatur and John M. Allen and wife Abra of Elkmont; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
John Houston "Jack" Allen was born Aug. 18, 1929 in Limestone County to Minnie Ophelia Batts Allen. He graduated from Athens High School in 1948 and attended Athens College on an athletic scholarship until his National Guard unit was activated. He served in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Allen worked until retirement for Morton Thiokol at Redstone Arsenal. He was a lifelong resident of Athens. Mr. Allen enjoyed grandchildren and gardening in his retirement.
Pallbearers are Jack Witty Allen Jr., Michael Waggoner, John Waggoner, Nathan King, W.R. Nelson and James Allen Christopher.
