ON 15 March 1895, he was granted a US patent for a stem p-joint for carriages.
At the time of his death, he was a carriage worker, employed at the Eccles Factory.
Aged 51 years, sudden death due to heart failure.
He was pre-deceased by his first wife Tillie and was survived by his second wife Anna and their 4 children.
Four of his brothers, Archibald, Andrew, John and David are also buried at Fort Hill as is his sister Elizabeth Murdock Lester.

"His sudden death is deeply deplored by a large circle of friends, as his genial disposition and love for music made him a favorite with many."
