Death Claims Life Long Resident
The funeral of Mrs. Jalia F. Gabbard was held Wednesday Dec 14 at the home of her son, James R. Gabbard at Ricetown at 10:30 She died at 5 p.m Dec 12.
Services were conducted by the Rev. James R Witherspoon assisted by Rev R. G. McClure and Rev. I.H. Gabbard Rev. Chester Ranck had charge of the choir.
Mrs. Gabbard was the oldest woman in Owsley county and was born Oct 19, 18 55 and was a daughter of the late Wesley Reynolds of this county. She was a widow of John L. Gabbard. She had been a member of the Presbyterian church for about 25 years. About six months ago she suffered a stroke and fall resulting in injuries which confined her to her bed until her death.
Mrs. Gabbard was widely known for her hospitality and kindness. She was born and reared on Cow Creek moving to Indian Creek after her marriage, where she lived until her death.
Survivors are a son, James D. Gabbard with whom she made her home and five other sons, Charlie, Albert, Meredith Henry and Dr. Elmer Gabbard and t hree daughters, Mrs. Pearl Fields, Mrs. Lucy Taylor and Mrs. Shelby Bowman and a number of grandchildren. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Interment was in the Gabbard cemetery at Ricetown.
