Thomas Fanning, Sr., son of Thomas S. Fanning [b. ca 1763] and Sarah Lnu.

Born 9 Jul 1800 in North Carolina. Died 10 Feb 1861 at the age of 60. Bur. in Vaughn Cemetery [originally in Fanning Cemetery], Dade Co., MO, in Row 19.

Married Elizabeth "Betsy" Swadley [b. 27 Aug 1801-27 Oct 1839; also bur. in Vaughn Cemetery in Row 19]. They had these children:

Sarah Jane (1819-1858); married Miles Malone [aka James M.] RUSSELL

Flora L. (1824-1893); mar. Ira EMMONS, William Bradley SLOAN, and Stephen MOORE

Thomas Chennault (1826-1866); married Mary Elvira MALICOAT

John Kennedy (1826-1853); married Mary A. LOVEALL

Elizabeth R. (1829-1891); married Richard Green CLOPTON

Robert E. (1834-1879); married Hannah UNKNOWN and then Ellen C. DEARING

William Taylor (1836-1874); married Sarah E. SPEIGHT and then Sarah M. COOK

After Elizabeth's death, Thomas Sr. married Harriet Lydia CARTER, and had 5 children with her.

There were a few burials in the Fanning cemetery that were reburied in the Vaughn cemetery before the area was flooded to make Stockton Lake.
