Mr. Lewis was a World War II Navy veteran and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He retired from federal civil service in 1973, served for 27 years as an elder of the West Huntsville Church of Christ, severed as both a DAV service officer and chaplin and preached the gospel for many years at small congregations throughout northern Alabama and southern Tennessee.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ellenburg; sons, David Ellenburg and wife Connie of Huntsville and Don Ellenburg and wife Nancy of Gardendale; grandchildren, Tanya Kimmet, Kyle Ellenburg and Stentsen Ellenburg; great-grandson, Zachary Kimmet; and sisters, Vera Harvel of Arab and Arnette Wright of Decatur.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Paul Clements and Elbert Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
