Amos was born to Rev. Amos M and Mary Catherine "Molly" Hair, being their 8th child out of 13.

May 10, 1905 he married Ella Lilliam Steinert in Mountain Grove, Wright County, Missouri. To this union 15 children were born. Two of the children died before age 3.

In 1930 they were still farming in the Mountain Grove-Norwood area. Am not sure as to when they moved the family to California, may of been during the Depression.

It is said that he never got over the lost of his farm, but did grow a large garden there and shared with the children and their families.

They had been married 41 years at the time of her death, with him out living her another 16 years, even though he was 13 years her senior.
