Pvt. David Burns Of Batchtown Killed In Action

Again the destruction of war has struck at the hearts of the people of a small sympathizing community and claimed a young man, son, brother, husband and father. Pvt. David Burns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Burns, and the husband of Mrs. Valeria Burns, nee Kraut, was killed in action in Germany April 28. David had been in the service only about 8 months. He was inducted into the army Sept. 5 and was only in the States a few months before being sent overseas. He was serving in the 7th Army. David was born at Batchtown 26 years ago, and grew to manhood in this little village and had chosen it as a home for his wife and two daughters, Carol and Myra. He had a host of friends here who are grieved beyond words to hear of his untimely departure. Words cannot convey to the grief stricken wife and parents the sorrow that is felt in the hearts of the people over this sad news. We tenderly condole with all the relatives of this fine young man who laid down his life for his friends. Everyday we look into the heavens and never yet have found a sky without its clouds. And then we look into the hearts of those who have become our friends and never yet have found one without its burdens and sorrows. Sorrow life rain descends unexpectedly, but before long the sun will shine again and the rainy days will be at no more. – Batchtown Correspondent.
