Gene Stuart was the son of Willis Edwin and Harriett Ann (Hunt) Axtell. He was the brother of William Kenneth Axtell and Dorothea Louise Axtell Strayer Homolka.
Gene married Ethel Mary Campmeier on 31 May 1941 in Council Grove, Kansas. To this union were born a son, Robert Gene, and two daughters, Linda Rae (who passed away at the tender age of 12) & Terry Kay.
His sister Dorothea married my (Carol Strayer's) 2nd cousin 1 time removed, Weir LaVerne Strayer.
