Birchal was the middle child of the three children born to Herbert and Anna (Scofield) Baker on a farm his parents were working very hard on, to make a decent living. Fortunately, he was able to grow up with his grandparents next door and the other grandparents not too far off. Unfortunately, his father died when Birchal was only 7 years old. With three children to raise, Anna remarried Edward Hunt. Edward was also widowed and having a young daughter named Edna May Hunt. In time, Birchal gain a half-sister named Letha, from Anna and Edward's union. It seems, that Edward and Birchal didn’t see eye to eye and there was always some type of turmoil among the two. However, things were different between Birchal and his step sister May, for they were married on April 5, 1906 in Hyde, South Dakota, her being 16 at the time of marriage. Tragically, their first child was stillborn or died very early on and within a few short months the couple divorced. On September 25, 1913 Birchal married Goldie Mae Corbin. The Corbin family were longtime friends with the Baker’s, in fact Birchal's older sister, Stella was married to Howard Corbin, Goldie's older brother. In a letter to Birchal, Joshua Corbin, Goldie's dad, invited Birchal to come and stay with them. Somewhere along the line, Birchal and Joshua’s youngest daughter Goldie, fell in love. The couple was constantly on the move between Oregon and Washington with the family of five boys seeming to be born all over the country or always living in a different spot. In 1928 the family bought a chunk of land in Orting and begun raising cows and selling milk and in time became a successful dairy called the Mountain View Farms of Orting. The Baker family became famous in their little town of Orting for another reason and that was their little family band. After a hard day’s work the family would put their talents together and make extra money playing their instruments at dances throughout the Puyallup and Orting Valley. Sadly on May 6, 1946 Birchal died before his time at his home in Orting, Washington.
