She was born in Rhea County on Dec. 13, 1916, the daughter of the late Thomas Albert and Caroline (Russell) Pelfrey. She was a lifelong resident of Rhea County and enjoyed family, friends and making quilts. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Jonathan Roberts; sisters, Faye Clark and Hazel Pelfrey; brothers, Stanley Pelfrey and Thomas Pelfrey.
Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Lee Roberts, Evensville; children, Carrie Lee (Bobby) Maddux, Evensville, Edna (Kenneth) Stephens, Lenoir City, Mildred Cochran, Evensville, Margaret (Mike) Nacci, Hollywood, Fla., Mable (Glen) Varner, Evensville, Jerry (Dottie) Roberts, Evensville, Clyde (Dana) Roberts, Chattanooga, Brenda (Alvin) Lewis , Dayton, Ruth (Russell) Goins, Evensville, Rita Neal, Evensville, Michael (Kim Roberts, Evensville; brothers, Robert W. Pelfrey, Dayton, Harley Pelfrey, Hastings, Mich., Tex Pelfrey, Dawling, Mich.; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at the South Dayton Church of God, the Rev. Carlos Swafford, Pastor Mike Justice and the Rev. Vaughn Dunn officating.
Burial was in Pierce Cemetery in Evensville, followed by a white dove release.
