Jesse Acklam served with Able Company of the 24th Marines. He enlisted in 1943 at the age of 19 and trained at Camp Pendleton, California. He was wounded in action.

AKEWOOD, COLO Jesse Acklam Jr 76, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2000, after undergoing surgery. Mr. Acklam was born in Racine on April 3, 1923, to Jesse G. and Marie (nee: Petersen) Acklam in August of 1941, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Hanson in Canton, Iowa. Mr. Acklam was a 1941 graduate of William Horlick High School. During World War II, he fought in the Pacific with the 4th Marine Division. While on tour of duty, he was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded during the invasion of Saipan. Mr. Acklam was an Assistant Vice-President and Loan Officer for the First National Bank, now Bank One of Racine. He also served as a member and past President of the Sertoma Club. He retired from banking after 37 years and moved to Lakewood, Colo, with his wife. He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. He attended Lockwood Baptist Church of Lakewood, Colo. Mr. Acklam is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Susan (Charles) Kind of Racine; son, Jesse R. (Mary) Acklam of Waterford; son, David (Teresa) Acklam of Tucson, and daughter, Krisanne (Michael) Krohn of Vail, Colo. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kimberly (Joseph) Kind-Bauer, Eric (Sandra) Kind, Steven (Maria) Kind, Amy (Vaun) Podlogar, Ryan Acklam, Emily Acklam, Kraig Acklam, and Alisa Acklam; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy (John) Grant of Wild Rose; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jean Acklam, Lois (nee: Acklam) Jacobsen, Esther Blank, Audrey Hanson, Darrell and Nancy Hanson of Racine, and Jim and Arlene Foley -of Lakewood, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends, Tom Edwards of Racine, Ted and Evelyn Shellberg of Racine, and Robert and Dorothy Schildt of Sarasota, Fla. Preceding him in death were his parents; and brothers, Roland and Donald. Sr
