Seymour served with the 149th Volunnter Infantry from New York during the Civil War and fought at Gettsburg. Son of Levi and Julia Knickerbocker married Jennie Staton 1867 father of Edward S., Frank, and William Charles Divorced Jennie in 1876 married Alice Newton in 1878 father of Laverne Matthew.
