Daddy

He was born in Donalsonville, Seminole County, GA, but was raised in Jakin, Early County, GA. He was raised by his grandparents, Brantley C. George and Emma Lee Houston George. His parents were W. Russell George and Alice Elizabeth Moates George. He had 5 younger siblings- Brenda, Patricia, June, Ray, and Lucille.

He spent 10 years in the US Navy as a helicopter mechanic and flying Search & Rescue. He married Melba Henry, daughter of Pearlie Henry and Dorothy Moody Henry on March 8, 1963.
He left the Navy and joined the US Air Force in 1967-68. He was a recip-engine mechanic and a Master Instructor. He spent quite of bit of time in South East Asia during the Viet Nam era. After almost two years as an Air Force Recruiter, he retired from the military March 1, 1978 with a just a little over 20 years total service.

On March 17, 1978, he had emergency 4 bypass open heart surgery which left him disabled for the rest of his life, but never really slowed him down! He faced many medical problems, including another 5 by pass surgery in 1990. losing the left kidney due to blockage of the renal artery, having the left carotid artery by-passed in his neck and a lower abdominal aortic aneurism. In September 1996, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an asbestos related lung cancer. It was this disease that took him in October 1997. He took everything with a smile and in stride, never letting anything get him down. His mantra seemed to be "Deal With It!"

He was a happy person, never met a stranger and always enjoyed helping others. He was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed other sports, as well as enjoying the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping.

To all who knew him, he will always be missed.
