She was the daughter of Daniel Lewis & Arizona (Miller) VinSant.

Her father was an employee of the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad. Because of his job the family moved often. Carrie kept a list of the moves;
From Anness, KS to Arkansas City, KS in 1899, to Cross, Oklahoma Territory in 1898, to Fairfax, Oklahoma Territory in 1903, to Cross, Oklahoma Territory in 1904, (Oklahoma became a state in 1907) to Red Rock, OK in March of 1909, to New Ponca, OK in August of 1909, to Gibbon, OK in 1910, to Castleton, KS in 1911, to Pretty Prairie, KS in 1912, to Ponca City, OK in March 1913, to Pretty Prairie, KS August 1913, to Goddard, KS 1914. When her Dad retired after 20 years on the job. They moved back to Cass County, Missouri. The family lived on the Old VinSant Farm. They attended the Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Here Carrie met and married "Wiley" Parris, 17 Oct 1917, Cass County, Missouri.

Carrie was a devoted wife, mother and daughter and an avid reader. She was educated in the common schools of the day, but she always said most of her education came from reading.

For their remaining years they always came to Missouri to spend the month of October. In these later years they made the trip by train. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Pleasant Hill while there on vacation.

Wiley passed away in 1969. Carrie continued to live in Escondido, close to her sister Bertha, until her health failed.
