Deacon Albert Arms.
Died at Kendall, Dec. 20, Deacon Albert Arms, aged 87 years. Deceased was born in Waterbury, Vt., in 1806, which place he visited in the fall, spending his last birthday in the same house where his first was celebrated. Born of Puritan stock, the principles of those people have been the governing Impulse of his long and active life. He was ever a vigilant and faithful watchman upon the walls of Zion. In 1849, he was elected an elder in the First Presbyterian church this city, where he came in 1847, and started the first foundry and machine shop. He circulated the first petition for, and built the first sidewalk in the then village. He was engaged in active business here for many years. In 1801, in connection with Mr. L. B. Kendall, he established an extensive lumber and stave plant at Kendall, Mich. Which was successfully run for many years. Deacon Arms has since resided there. His first wife died in Kalamazoo in 1860. In 1862, be married Mrs. Helen Kendall who survives him, together with two daughters, Mrs. Martin Metcalf of Battle Creek, and Miss Lucretia Arms of Milwaukee. Mr. L B. Kendall received the news in Utah and will arrive Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Kendall left Denver for this city Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kendall were expected this afternoon from Topeka. The burial will occur Monday in Mountain Home on the arrival of the South Haven train.
