Ellen Adkins was age 6 months old on the 1850 Cass County, Missouri census with her parents and older siblings. Her father, Benjamin C., was age 33, born in Illinois. Her mother, Elizabeth, was age 32, born in Tennessee. Her older siblings were listed as James M., 15 MO; Maranda, (Miranda) 12; Marian, (Mary A.) 10; Thomas B., 7; & William H., 4. This 1850 census was dated in October, which places Ellen's birth in 1850.

Ellen's family had moved to the Kansas Territory by 1855 and were listed in the 1860 Peoria, Franklin, Kansas Territory census. Her father was the older Benjamin C. Adkins who is buried here. Her mother was Elizabeth, possibly Elizabeth Wilbourn who married Mr. Caroll Adkins in January of 1835 in Jackson County, Missouri.

------ The grave photo, added in April, 2011 by F. Mc, shows most of the inscription as still legible. The spacing is a little wide, but the gravestone does list her as a daughter of "B. C. & E. Adkins." However, if her age in the 1850 census was correct, then she would have been almost 12 years old when she died in February of 1862.
