The will of Mrs. Charles Ryder--Cora Borton Ryder, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Borton, Emporia pioneers--designated a fund approximating $200,000.00 to be known as the Borton-Ryder memorial hospital fund, the interest and accumulations of which are to be used, according to the wording of the will, "for the rendering of medical care and assistance to the children of Emporia, Kansas who are unable to provide for such medical attendance for themselves, . . . to alleviate the sufferings of the children of poverty." Mrs. Ryder died at her home in Emporia in October, 1929. She left several substantial bequests, and many smaller ones, mostly to friends in Emporia, where she had lived all of her life. Mrs. Ryder was the last of her family.
