CIVIL WAR SOLDIER 69TH PA. INF.

Cyrus O'Daniel was the descendant of a Daniel O'Daniel who emigrated from Co.Offaly Ireland in the middle of the 18th century.
He enlisted and mustered in at Philadelphia aged 20 on the 5th May 1861 into Co.G. of the 69th Pa. Infantry. He transferred from the 27th Reg. on 1st.Oct 1861.
He was wounded at the Wall at Gettysburg 3rd July 1863 both from "friendly fire" from what was the canon battery of Cowan which was stationed behind Co. G. He was also shot in the chest and carried the bullet until his dieing day.After recuperation he served out his term of enlistment in a Reserve Co. in Washington D.C. Later post war said to have then served as a policeman in Philadelphia At age 53 his health failed and he went to live in the Southern Reserve branch home in Hampton Va.circa 1893. It would appear from his place of burial that he died in the Home at Hampton on 28th Feb 1895. He would have been aged 54.
