"NECROLOGICAL.
Miss Ruby Spaulding in Berkeley Answers Last Call.

Mrs. Hannah Harp Dies in County Hospital and Elijah Jennings in Hungry Hollow.

In our Winters column, taken from the Express, mention is made of an operation performed in a Berkeley hospital on Miss Ruby Spaulding and the statement is made that the operation was successful. After the publication of that item the news of the death of Miss Spaulding was received at this office. The sad event occurred late Sunday afternoon, about 5 o'clock.

The operation for a nervous trouble was performed Friday morning, November 3d. She appeared to be doing well until Sunday morning, when her condition took a turn for the worse and she survived but a few hours.

The body will arrive in Winters this evening and the funeral will be held on Tuesday at 2 p. m.

Miss Ruby Victorine Spaulding was the oldest daughter of Robt. Spaulding of this city and Mrs. Z[achary] T[aylor] Magill [nee Susan Mary Harlan] of Winters. She was born in Maxwell, Colusa county, on the 16th of April, 1878. Soon afterwards her parents removed to Woodland where the family resided for many years.

She also lived in Winters for a number of years and for two years in San Jose, for a short time in Healdsburg, and also in Berkeley. From Berkeley she returned with the late Dr. Z. T. Magill and her mother to Winters. Her last visit in Woodland was for three weeks last September.

In early childhood she was afflicted with spinal meningitis from the effects of which she never fully recovered.

Besides her father and mother she leaves two sisters, Mrs. T[homas] D[ea] Cummins [nee Hazel Jo Anna Spaulding] of Sutter county and Mrs. W[illiam] H[enry] Benteen [nee Grace Lillian Spaulding] of Watsonville, also a half-brother, Joseph Magill, of Winters. She was a granddaughter of the late J[oseph] H[elm] Harlan. She was greatly beloved by all who knew her and her family has the sympathy of hosts of friends." END
