dward and his family lived at Leete’s Island, Guilford, Connecticut. He was a deacon in the First Church of Guilford from November 14, 1852 until his death. He formerly taught in the public schools of Guilford, was a trustee of the Guilford Institute since the first year of its active work, and twice, in the years 1854 and 1865, represented the town in the Connecticut Legislature.

He was a farmer, cultivating his ancestral acres at Leete’s Island with diligence and success. For the last two years of his life his life was impaired by declining health and he had to put his farming activities aside. During this period Edward worked on the Leete family genealogy, much of which has found its way into this family tree record. His part of the family tree work was to help with collecting, arranging, and preparing the family data for the press, and the eventual publication of the book “The Descendants of William Leete.”

He was a man of principle and strong convictions, careful in the forming of his opinions, but never swerving from the strict rule of what was right. He had the respect, esteem and confidence of all who associated with him, and everyone considered him a personal friend.
