Merrit A. Bloomquist, 81, of Nampa, Idaho, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 22, 2008, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was visiting his sons. A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 40410th Ave. S., Nampa –- 466-3545. Burial will follow at the Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise with military honors by personnel from the Mountain Home Air Force Base. The family will greet loved ones and friends at the funeral chapel on Monday evening from 6-8.
Merrit was born June 4, 1927, to Albin and Amy Bloomquist in Fergus Falls, Minn. He lived there until he entered the Air Force as a Cadet. After World War II, he attended Northwest Nazarene College where he met Violet Scharmer. They were married on April 14, 1950, in Buffalo Lake, Minn., then moved to Indiana. Not long after, they moved back to Nampa where they raised three children in their home on S. Powerline. He still resided in that home at the time of his death.
Merrit was a charter member of College Church of the Nazarene, a longtime member of the Lion's Club and an avid private pilot.
He is survived by his sons Doug and wife Julia, and Kent and wife Dana, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; his daughter-in-law, Judy, of Meridian; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Gordon, Marvin, Deloris, Doris and Ralph.
He was preceded in death by his wife Violet, son Darrel and sister Alice.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to College Church of the Nazarene, 504 E. Dewey Ave., Nampa, ID 83686.
