YOUNG WIFE AND MOTHER DIES TODAY
Many Hearts Saddened by Untimely Death of Mrs. Carlos Noelle - Husband, Infant Son, Mother and Sisters Survive - Funeral Services on Monday

Losing in her determined fight for life, Mrs. Carlos Noelle, better for known in Ashland as Elbert Greer, daughter of Mrs. Lillian Greer, died at 3:45 o'clock this morning, June 6, 1931, at the Community hospital as the result of complications which developed following the birth of her son, Carlos Jr. on May 28.
The young mother's death has cast a shadow of sorrow over a wide circle of local friends who knew and loved her well.
Within 24 hours after the birth of her son, complications developed. Mrs. Noelle fought against the inroads of fever with determination to live, but her condition grew gradually worse and when the crisis came this morning, in her weakened condition she was unable to rally.
Her condition became critical at midnight last night. Her family was summoned to her bedside. In spite of every effort made by the attending physician, she gradually sank away and death came at dawn.
A thoughtful and charming young woman, Mrs. Noelle in her young womanhood had fulfilled the promise of her girlhood when her Ashland friends knew and loved her well.
She was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, March 7, 1908 and had reached the age of 23 years, 2 months and 29 days at the time of her untimely death. She was the daughter of Bert and Lillian Greer. When she was three years of age the family moved to Ashland where Mr. Greer purchased the Daily Tidings, which he published up until the time of his death five years ago.
Elbert attended the public schools of Ashland, and following graduation from Ashland High School, attended the University of Oregon where she pledged Chi Omega.
About three and a half years ago, she located in Hollywood. She was keenly interested in movie work and during the time she was in the movie center made splendid progress as an actress. She appeared in speaking roles in several feature pictures since the development of the talkies, and a brilliant future was frequently predicted by those who saw her work. Her screen name was "Gloria" Greer, a name well-suited to her happy spirit and blonde beauty. It was under this name that she gained for herself a place in the film work
Her marriage to Carlos Noelle of Los Angeles occurred about a year ago. In February of this year, Mr. and Mrs. Noelle accompanied the latter's mother, Mrs. Greer, to Ashland, when she returned to her home after spending several months in Burbank, California with her daughters.
Mrs. Noelle, who had been gone from Ashland for about four and a half years, renewed former friendships and the happy couple were looking forward with anticipation toward their continued residence here.
They were overjoyed by the birth of their son, and when unexpected complications developed, the battle for saving the young mother's life was fought with every agency of medical skill, but all efforts were unavailing.
In addition to her bereaved young husband and infant son, the young mother is survived by her mother, Mrs. Lillian Greer, owner of the Daily Tidings, and two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Schofield who makes her home in Ashland and Mrs. Harvey Ling (Vivian Greer) of Burbank, California.
Mr. and Mrs. Ling had been notified of their sister's critical condition at 2 o'clock Friday morning and drove through from Burbank, arriving shortly after 10 o'clock Friday night. Mrs. Noelle was conscious when her sister and brother-in-law arrived, and expressed happiness at seeing them.
The unexpected and untimely passing of the beautiful young wife and mother has brought grief to many hearts, and the grief-stricken family is receiving much heartfelt sympathy.
Funeral services are to be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Presbyterian church where Mrs. Noelle was a faithful member during her childhood and where she held her membership. Temporarily, the body will be placed in the mausoleum here, and in the fall will be moved to Burbank where her father is buried.
