Wife of Halsey Jack BealsEva Sharp Beals Lutz was a resident of Ashland community most of her life and a Gold Star mother of World War II. She died at her home west of Grant after a long illness. She came to Ashland with her parents, Milo and Caroline in 1886. The family moved by train, with Caroline and the girls riding up front, and Milo and the young sons riding in a box car with the cattle.
With exception of 9 years during which she resided in Muskegon she had made her home at Ashland.
Eva married Charles Myers and gave birth to a son, Clarence.
She divorced Charles and married Halsey Jack Beals and had 4 children:
Neta
Jane
Doris
William
Eva later married William Lutz who came to be loved and respected by the children.
Eva loved to sew, make quilts, and to crochet, making many things for her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ashland Center Baptist Church, a church her grandmother, Betsey Davis Sharp helped to start in the 1800s. Eva had a great love for God and read her Bible daily.
