He was born at Flyns Creek, Tennessee, and was the son of James I. & Marinda C. "Basham" Murray. He was the husband of Bertha Ann "Jones". They married in Bonham, Fannin County, Texas, Nov 28, 1861. He later married Mary Jane "Green" in Texas, Feb. 9, 1873. He was the father of John Shadrack, George Thomas, Jim, William Henry David*, Margaret E., Robert, Louis Fredrick, William Campbell, Martha Marenda, S. U., Dovie, Dick & Grace Pearl Murray. He died Aug. 7, 1931 in OKC.
*William Henry Murray served as Governor of Oklahoma as did his son, Johnston Murray.
