THOMAS HOWARD CARROLL WAS THE SON OF REV. FERDINAND TILFORD AND VONIA LOU DUNHAM CARROLL.

HE MARRIED MARY EDITH WILLS IN 1927 IN SULLIVAN COUNTY, TENNESSEE. GOD BLESSED THIS MARRIAGE WITH THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN: VELMA SUE, DONALD JAMES, MYRTLE LORETTA, THOMAS GLENN AND SHIRLEY NELL CARROLL.

THOMAS HOWARD CARROLL WAS THE SIBLING OF BEULAH MAE, ELLA LOU, CHARLES LINCOLN, EZRA CONNER, FRANK TILFORD, JAMES EVERETT, GOLDIE ALICE, LEATRICE GENELLA, BETTY JO MARCELENE AND STILLBORN TWIN SISTERS CARROLL.

Kingsport – Thomas Howard Carroll, 78, formerly of Route 2, Gravley Road (Riddle Street), Kingsport, died at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 1987, at Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Born in Hawkins County, he had been a resident of Kingsport most of his life and was a retired construction worker. He was a member of Riverside Avenue Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 688, Kingsport.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edith Wills Carroll in 1982 and two infant sons, Donald James and Thomas Glenn; his parents, Rev. Ferdinand Tilford and Vona Lou Dunham Carroll; his paternal grandparents, Charles Winton and Matilda Yates Carroll; his maternal grandparents, Abraham "Abe" and Matilda Alice Clifton Dunham; two sisters, Beulah Mae Wright and Nannie Ella Holt; four brothers, Charles Lincoln, Ezra Conner, Ferdinand Tilford Jr. and James Everett Carroll.

Surviving are his three daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Velma Sue) Larkins, Mrs. Gary (Myrtle Loretta Thomason) Howell and Mrs. Ralph (Shirley Nell) Carter, all of Kingsport; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Earl (Goldie Alice) Wolfe, Kingsport, Mrs. Haskell (Leatrice Genella) Quarry, Church Hill and Mrs. Herbert (Betty Jo Marcelene) Seidel, New Castle, DE; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the chapel of the funeral home with Elder Billy Wayne Elkins and Elder Dana Crawford officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
