Ole was one of the very first settlers in Elbow Lake Twp. He came there in 1871. His original homestead of 160 acres was expanded to 400 acres. On July 8, 1874 he married Jennie Haugen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Iver Haugen. Ole platted Pioneer Addition to Elbow Lake and sold lots to the owners of the first businesses established here. West Elbow was platted as "Canestorp" in his honor. He served as county treasurer and later was elected to several terms as state senator.
