Carl E. Lawrenz, 96, Algoma, WI, was called to his eternal rest on October 20, 2008. He was born in Rio Creek, WI to August and Martha (Schmeling) Lawrenz on January 2, 1912.

Carl, a graduate of Algoma High School went on to earn his B.E. in 1934 from Wisconsin State University, River Falls, WI. In 1936, Carl and Viola Bathke were married at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Rankin, WI by Rev. Pautz.

Teaching vocational agriculture in schools at Almond and Marinette, WI, led Carl's career to a startup, in 1938, of a new Vo-Ag program at Loyal High School in Loyal, WI. His career at Loyal lasted 27 years plus an additional two years as principal of the high school. In 1949, Carl was selected by his peers to be on the State Board of Agriculture Instructors from which he was chosen as the president in 1950-51. While residing in Loyal, Carl served as an officer at Trinity Lutheran Church. Carl was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Algoma.

Earning his Master of Education degree in 1967 from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Carl became the agriculture instructor at Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, WI. While teaching at both Loyal and Lincoln, his FFA teams won many state championships in crops and farm management.

Survivors include wife, Viola, of 72 years, two sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Donna Lou, Algoma; Dr. Lon and Peggy, Tempe, AZ; four granddaughters, Lychelle, Chicago; Sam and her husband, Mark Prokash, Algoma; Lara and her husband, David Folmer, Castalion Springs, TN; and Amber and her husband, Aaron Zaragoza, Mesa, AZ; two grandsons, Damon and his wife, Jessica, Kansas City, KS; and Trevor of Tempe, AZ; two great-granddaughters Abby Renee Lawrenz, Kansas City, KS; and Akira Zaragoza of Mesa, AZ; six great-grandsons Justin Putman, Luxemburg; Hunter and Booker Prokash, Algoma; Andrew and Archer Zaragoza, Mesa, AZ; and David Folmer, Castalion Springs, TN; one great- great-grandson, Landon Putman, Luxemburg; one sister, Ruth Ihlenfeldt, Kewaunee, one brother-in-law, August Duescher, Maribel; one sister-in-law Ruth Blahnik, Crystal Lake, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, August and Martha Lawrenz, his in-laws, Louis and Mary Bathke, his brother, Everett, a sister, Elaine Duescher, three sisters-in-law Pearl Lawrenz, Alvina Rodrian and Marie Moede, four brothers-in-law Dayton Ihlenfeldt, Reinhold Rodrian, Ervin Moede and Dave Blahnik.

Friends may call at the Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, from 10 a.m., Saturday, October 25, 2008, until the time of services at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Roy Beyer officiating. Entombment at the Knollwood Mausoleum in Manitowoc.

In lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established in Carl's name.
